Summit: A Winter Wonderland
Summit’s downtown is home to celebrations throughout the year, but a favorite of ours is the Carriages & Carolers event! Every weekend in December, families can enjoy free carriage rides and listen to carolers sing about the holidays!
When you combine that with Summit’s beautiful downtown decorations and the gorgeous holiday storefronts, our town is truly transformed into a winter wonderland. And this is a celebration that can be enjoyed by all: It’s completely free, perfect for families, and when Lydia and I went, plenty of other teens were walking about and enjoying the celebration too, hot chocolate in hand!
The carriage ride is especially nice because you get to see the downtown from practically every angle. It’s also incredibly fun (and makes for a rocky ride). The ride felt like something straight out of a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie, in the best way possible! The carolers also added a beautiful atmospheric element, both the singers and the small band that moved throughout the town.
Of course, this outing wasn’t truly complete until we had a hot chocolate from Boxwood Coffee (with whipped cream, of course) and some lunch at Marigolds’! Their pesto panini is one of our favorites: healthy, delicious, and vegetarian. Marigolds’ outdoor area was also dressed to impress- including beautiful fairy lights hung overhead, a Christmas tree, and a DJ.
Carriages & Carolers can be enjoyed on Saturday, the 19th, from 1 to 4 p.m., and we highly recommend getting out and enjoying Summit’s Winter Wonderland! You can find the horse-drawn carriage on the corner of Bank Street and Beechwood Road, by Boxwood Coffee.
If you want to check out a gorgeous holiday storefront, make sure to check out Opulent Obsessions on Kent Place! They’ve truly outdone themselves with their holiday decor; it’s the perfect place to get that perfect holiday picture.
