How to Spend Your “Me Day”

Have you ever come home from work, school, or running errands feeling… off? Maybe your back aches from sitting around all day or your eyes hurt from staring at a screen. Perhaps you started your day bright and early and are only now realizing you’ve been awake for 16 hours without a moment to yourself.

Believe me, we’ve all had moments in our lives where we’ve bit off a bit more than we can chew and find ourselves fatigued and in desperate need of a break. This, my friends, is what we would call burnout. And while, yes, burnout is super annoying to deal with on a day-to-day basis, I’ve found a temporary cure for it that is sure to get you back to your eager and energetic self! Cue the Me Day, a full day that you take entirely for yourself to help your body and mind recuperate from the stress of life in our busy modern age. So, I’m going to give you a few suggestions on how to spend your “Me Day” so that you can quickly bounce back from weariness.

What to do on your me day - relax and read

1) Wake Up When Your Body Wants To

In order to have a successful Me Day, you have to start it off right! Instead of setting an alarm or pulling up your blinds, let your circadian rhythm determine when you wake up and begin your day. This will make the mornings so much more pleasant while also ensuring that you get all the sleep you need! And once you're awake, stay in the warm comfort of bed for a few minutes reading a book or scrolling through your phone; savor the moment of calm that you have all to yourself before you get up and start your day.

2) Eat Nutritious Meals

The key to a good Me Day is giving your mind and body the chance to recover from the burdens of day-to-day life. So, instead of having a super quick meal as you're rushing out the door or skipping it entirely, make sure you have a nourishing meal to give your body the fuel it needs and deserves.

3) Spend Some Time Outside

On your Me Day, it’s crucial to spend some time with the elements! Whether that means going on a walk, taking a hike, or just sitting under the sun, fresh air is the perfect way to relax your mind and body and just enjoy life.

4) Partake in Some of Your Hobbies

When we’re super busy, it’s often hard to find time for the things that make us happy. So, on your Me Day, take some time to rekindle the joy that you feel when you bake, knit, practice an instrument, or play a sport! It’s a great way to give yourself a break emotionally and mentally.

5) Take a Nice Bath

In my book, a nice warm bath is the BEST way to unwind after a long day. It’s one of the few moments where I can just be at peace with my thoughts and fully relax. So, take advantage of this on your Me Day! Light a candle or two (safely), put on some relaxing music, and immerse yourself in the true essence of a Me Day while you take all that time to yourself.

6) Do Whatever Feels Nice to You!

It wouldn’t be a real Me Day if I’m the one telling you all the things that you should do! At the end of the day, you are the one who knows the most about your life and what you can do to take the load off every once in a while.

So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, schedule yourself a Me Day! Trust me, you won’t regret it.
