Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021

It’s no secret that this year has been a bumpy ride for all of Summit’s citizens and businesses, but as 2020 comes to a close, let's take a moment to appreciate the good things that happened this year. From new businesses to new opportunities, our community has had many great moments.

The year was also our inspiration to launch The Summit Reel. Our goal was simple: support the Summit, NJ community. This simple goal allowed us to connect with several different people, families, and businesses we otherwise wouldn’t have. All of us at The Summit Reel are so thankful for this opportunity.

As 2021 arrives, we look forward to a new year of growth, both for ourselves and our small businesses.

The New Businesses of 2020

Over the year, we were able to enjoy several new businesses, such as Opulent Obsessions, Tea & Oranges, Bull & Bear Brewery, Barbacoa, and The Lash Lounge. Despite these businesses’ difficulties as they opened in this COVID-19 world, our community welcomed them with open arms!

Opulent Obsessions and Tea & Oranges are two of our favorite boutiques, both offering unique pieces and safe shopping habits. Opulent Obsessions allows for private shopping appointments to accommodate for coronavirus safety, and both businesses fortunately offer online shopping. For more information on Opulent Obsessions, check out our article on them!

The Lash Lounge is another business we were fortunate enough to work with and feature. Our editor, Lydia, and I were so excited to meet the owner and staff. It was truly eye-opening to see their account of what it was like to open a beauty salon of any kind during these times. Despite their difficulties, they are still able to offer beautiful, meticulously-done work along with all the safety measures needed to keep both their employees and customers safe! You can read a more in-depth summary of this shop in our article on them.

We were also so happy to hear the buzz surrounding Bull & Bear Brewery! After much suspense, seeing them open was a great surprise in 2020. Even better? They announced on their social media that they would be open New Year’s Eve from 2 pm - 8 pm, so you can say goodbye to this year in the best way possible.

Finally, Barbacoa is a popular new restaurant in Summit. In addition to their amazing atmosphere, stunning social media, and extremely popular mural, they also have wonderful drinks and delicious Mexican food! They are also now delivering via DoorDash. They’re currently offering a new rewards program- sign up now and get $10 off!

New Year’s Celebrations in Downtown

Wondering how to celebrate this year and support our local businesses? Well this year, our downtown community has you covered! Here's the scoop:

McCools is offering New Year’s themed hot chocolate bombs! They’re super fun and adorable (as well as trendy). And before December is over, make sure to try their amazing Peppermint Stick Shake, their “pinkmas” shake!

In addition to those amazing sweets, our beloved Brownie Points Bakery is offering 2021 themed cookies!  Those, plus some of their amazing cupcakes is sure to be a crowd (or rather, a small gathering) pleaser!

The Co-Co is also offering a free invitation to their Member-Exclusive Salon Conversation on February 10th and a free 60-minute one-on-one coaching session with a Co-Co Coaches’ Cohort member if you join this season.

2020, we can all agree, was not the greatest year ever. Let’s try to make 2021 better!
