Description:
Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder follows high schooler Pippa Fitz-Amobi and her attempt to reopen a missing-persons case one – that had plagued the town for 5 years. The case concerns Andie Bell, a 17-year-old girl who mysteriously went missing one Friday night. Sal Singh was pinned to the case after his body was found hanging in the middle of the woods, along with an accumulation of other evidence. However, Pippa, otherwise known as Pip, has reason to believe that Sal Singh was not guilty. With the help of Ravi Singh, Sal Singh’s younger brother, the duo works to bring justice to Sal’s tainted name. Due to the town’s sore spot for the case, Pip and Ravi face scorn and judgement. As they tiptoe toward unfolding the truth of the case, Pip begins receiving threats from an anonymous sender. It’s crystal clear that the perpetrator is still out there and it’s up to Pip and Ravi to find them.
The Review:
This book was a refreshing read, especially after reading a multitude of heavy-duty novels for school. Holly Jackson did an incredible job with the pacing of the plot, making sure that the storyline was easy enough to understand, without dwelling on unnecessary details. Using Pip’s log entries, the book was laid out in a way that broke up the story into chunks. This provided short recaps of the information Pip and Ravi collected, which were extremely helpful when trying to stay on track. And mark my words: When reading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, there’s no doubt that you’ll find yourself laughing, gasping, and squealing with excitement- sometimes even all at once! With countless hurdles and numerous dead-ends on the way, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will keep you hooked until the very last page. I would highly suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a smooth-sailing and entertaining book to get them through a reading slump, or simply for any mystery-lovers out there!
