Summit, NJ - Celebrate spring, and Earth Day, with a "host of golden daffodils," as poet William Wordsworth wrote, at Reeves-Reed Arboretum and enjoy one of the largest daffodil collections in New Jersey, Sunday, April 22, from 11 am to 4 pm. The collection, planted in the Arboretum's glacially carved 'kettle' or bowl, was started in the early 1900s by the original owners of the property, the Wisners. Today the collection boasts more than 50,000 bulbs and DAFFODIL DAY has become one of the most eagerly anticipated signature events at the Arboretum bringing visitors from all over the tri-state area.

Everyone always seems impatient for spring, but daffodil peeking is only one part of the festivities. With DAFF0DIL DAY sharing the honors with Earth Day, the Arboretum staff, headed by Director of Education Jackie Kondel, and Environmental Educators Althea Llewellyn and Marilyn Kelly, will host a day's worth of wonderful, family-friendly activities such as an outdoor farmer's market with vendors and food trucks, and "green themed" crafts and games for all. Not to be missed, a performance by the group Bash the Trash. B the T builds, performs and educates with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials, raising environmental awareness through music. And of course, DAFFODIL DAY wouldn't be the same without a return visit from our green goats from Rhinebeck, NY!

Professional photographer, Bruce Lorenz, an Arboretum favorite, will be on hand to take those special family photographs. And while you're here, stop in to the Wisner House Gallery and enjoy the meticulous and glorious work of artist Lynne Friedman and the Cosmic Garden Series currently on exhibit.

So mark your calendars for Sunday, April 22, from 11 am to 4 pm for DAFFODIL DAY. Why not honor Earth Day Weekend by leaving your car at home. Enjoy the beauty of Summit first hand by either walking or biking to DAFFODIL DAY. Extra bike racks will be on hand at the Arboretum.

Thanks to underwriting by our partners at Investors Savings Bank, DAFFODIL DAY is free to all RRA members. The admission for nonmembers is $10 per person or $25 per family. Not a member? Now's the time to sign up! For more information about DAFFODIL DAY and other events and workshops at Reeves-Reed Arboretum, please visit our website at www.reeves-reedarboretum.org or call 908-273-8787 x 1515.

Celebrating over 40 years as a historic public garden and education resource, Reeves-Reed Arboretum engages, educates and enriches the public through horticulture and environmental education, and the care and utilization of the gardens and estate.
