Stationery Muji NYC

Muji is located at 475 5th Avenue in New York City, which is right by Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. Make sure to stop by the store during your next city trip!

First Impressions:

I went to Muji for the first time and let me just say, I was absolutely blown away by the aesthetics of the store. Like its branding, the Muji store is decorated in a minimalistic fashion. When I first entered the store, I was immediately welcomed by the refreshing fragrances of the aroma diffusers the store sells. The store is divided into various categories, such as home decor, stationery (which Muji is most famous for!), clothing, travel, and health & beauty.

Stationery:

Right away, I began exploring the stationery, which I was most excited for due to their brand’s iconic simple and sleek designs. I was not at all prepared for the volume of stationery the store carried, however. From pens to even mini staplers, the Muji store carries all the stationery imaginable. With prices ranging from $0.50 to $16, Muji’s school supplies are extremely affordable – especially for their top notch quality. I left the stationery section (quite reluctantly, might I add) with a clear pencil case box and two white ballpoint pen bodies.

Apparel:

I wasn’t aware that Muji sold clothing until I visited the store, so it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Like the rest of the store, Muji’s apparel category is filled with minimal and sophisticated basics. Their clothing is especially suited for layering, pairing with more bold or statement pieces, or simply, for those looking for a clean and put-together look. Muji’s prices are a bit higher than those at other retailers, but as the store seems to reiterate, it is due to the high quality materials they use, as well as their mission to create sustainable clothing. The store seems to have a fair amount of sales and promotions, so if you manage to visit the store at the right time, you can make purchases for prices that are quite similar to other brands. I didn’t leave Muji’s apparel category with any clothing, but I did come out with 3 pairs of socks, after seeing their sale – 3 pairs of socks for $9.90!

Sustainability:

Muji’s minimal designs, whether it be their stationery or their clothing, are said to be due to the brand’s mission to create items that are recycled and not wasteful in production or resources. The end result is the simple and versatile goods the store has become notorious for!

I would highly suggest visiting the Muji store the next time you’re out and about in NYC! I had an incredible time perusing the items the store carries and am sure to be back soon!
